Asif Currimbhoy was born in an aristocratic Bombay Muslim family. He studied in the United States and worked as an executive in a multinational oil company. He had exposure to American theatre and an avid interest led him to compose about thirty plays featuring a powerful engagement with life. All these plays had a compelling quest for truth and equally compassion for humanity.
Darjeeling Tea? is an outcome of Currimbhoy’s tour in the tea gardens as well as his holiday visit to Darjeeling in the summer of 1970. It is a typical romantic comedy in which he successfully deals with the love between Big Mac, the tea planter, and the hill woman on one hand, and between Bunty, a new recruit, and Didi, the illegitimate daughter of Big Mac on the other.
