The Mimic Men is the premature autobiography of Ralph Singh. Ralph Singh reconstructs his childhood in the colonial island, Isabella, in the caribbean in order to explain his gradual dissociation from it and his desire to begin life afresh in his dream city, London. But he faces an identity crisis there-both as a student and a colonial politician. It is this fragmented personality that he tries to reconstruct in this largely autobiographical novel of Nobel laureate Sir Vidiadhar Surajprasad Naipaul. Shakti Batra has been Vice-principal, Dyal Singh College (University of Delhi), has also taught at the Kabul University and the University of Kyrgyzstan, Bishkek.
