One of the most prominent playwrights of the twentieth century, Bertolt Brecht has left behind a body of work that has set “the tone” for modern drama. Life of Galileo, considered his “greatest play” by John Willett, “A hymn to reason”, it is outwardly a straight forward chronicle of seventeenth-century intellectual history, sticking surprisingly to known facts about the mathematician-astronomer Galileo Galilei. The present critical study seeks to examine and assess the Life of Galileo from the viewpoint of the requirements of students in Indian universities and abroad from all angles.
