R. K. Narayan’s 1976 novel, The Painter of Signs follows the unusual courtship of Raman, a sign painter in Malgudi, and Daisy, a career wise feminist working to make family planning to the outlying villages. She commissions Raman to paint signs and murals for various clinics in the countryside. During their strictly business trip, Raman becomes infatuated with Daisy who is determined to succeed in her mission before becoming
his wife.
The present critical study examines and analyses the narrative from the view of university examinations. It provides a comprehensive summary of the novel, its background and the critical problems associated with it.
