Alfred Lord Tennyson (1809-92) was Poet Laureate of England after William Wordsworth’s death in 1850. He was extremely popular and extensively read during his lifetime. But there was a reaction against him in the early twentieth century on account of his limitations and shortcomings as a poet. However his works like In Memoriam and Ulysses are of abiding interest to readers and litterateurs alike.
