BEN JONSON Volpone or The Fox Volpone, a rich Venetian without children, feigns that he is dying in order to draw gifts from his would be heirs. Mosca, his parasite and confederate, persuades each of these in turn that he is to be the heir, and thus extracts costly presents from them; one of them, Corvino, even sacrifices his wife to Volpone is hope of the inheritance. Finally, Volpone overreaches himself, and Volpone, Mosca and Corvino receive the punishment they merit. This book provides a clear and authoritative text, detailed notes and commentary, critical and historical background of the play as well as select textual problems with answers for the benefit of our university students.
