Thank God, 1984 has come and passed, and we haven’t experienced the kind of nightmarish existence envisioned by George Orwell in his novel – a world emptied of all human feelings and values. Nineteen Eighty Four is more of a warning than a prophecy. If we don’t counter and disarm the forces of totalitarianism, we may face the fate of people like Winston Smith. That is the message of the novel. The present critical study delves deep into the text and seeks to interpret it from the point of view of the examination requirements of our university students.
