AN INTRODUCTION TO SYMBOLIC LOGIC

Symbolic Logic is a new and growing science, with far-reaching implications for many other realms of thought, and a remarkable power of sharpening the mind. The chief obstacle to a widespread study of this subject has been the lack of an elementary text-book. The present Introduction aims at developing the essential concepts of Symbolic logic from the level of common sense to the point of understanding the classical masterpiece, Whitehead’s and Russell’s Principia Mathematica. It presupposes no training in logic or any other field, but proceeds by ordered steps, with many examples and illustrations drawn from every-day life rather than from science or literature. Exercises are furnished with every chapter, and a selected book-list at the end is designed to supplement formal class-work.
