Triggered off” by the poem we learnt in school, khoob ladi mardani woh to Jahnsiwali Rani thi, and what Dattani had witnessed at somebody’s house, ... some form of battle between the woman and her husband... that she was fighting very bravely, Bravely Fought the Queen is reflective of Laxmibai’s fight against the British... a losing battle she never gave up. The play is set in present-day Bangalore, in one of the twin houses on an extensive estate where sisters Dolly and Alka await the return of their husbands from the struggling ad agency which they run. The cast of characters is closely knit, husbands Jiten and Nitin are also brother’s their bedridden and demented matriarch Baa is upstairs in the house, casting a shadow over the action with her by turns clear and skewed perspective; an absent brother and daughter propel events as much as the characters on stage. The witnesses to these increasingly entanglements are the brothers’ sole employee and his wife.
